The Dolphins Stole Bryce Petty’s Soul

Easily THE hit of the NFL season happened Saturday night in the Jets-Dolphins game. For some reason (they said it was “confusion” on the snap count) the Jets allowed the two most lethal Dolphin pass-rushers (Cameron Wake and Ndamakong Suh) to just BLOW past a flat footed offensive line and KA-RUNCH! QB Bryce Petty.

OOOOOFFFF!

Petty left the game and was checked for broken ribs and “internal injuries.” They are still awaiting results of an MRI to determine just how many of his internal organs are still working.

So it needs to be noted, that despite all of the ticky-tack flags to protect QB’s – which drive fans insane, and quite often tip the balance of a game in the favor of one team – these rules are STILL NOT PROTECTING QUARTERBACKS from getting hurt! In other words, these rules are pointless.

Example: It’s a 7-point lead for N.O. with 4 1/2 to play in the 4th quarter in the Cardinals-Saints game, the Cards had just swamp-sacked Drew Brees to push them out of FG range on 3rd and long. HUGE PLAY. Ooops. Wait. Referee Carl Cheffers called Sia Moore for “roughing” – it was nothing of the sort, a mere incidental arm that grazed the head of an already submerged Brees.

What would have been a 4th and 19 at the 38 (likely a punt, or maybe a 55 yard FG attempt) instead was magically transformed into a 1st and 10 at the 14. (Spoiler alert: the Saints went on to score a TD, and win the game!) All because the NFL wants YOU the fans – and especially the young moms out there driving their kids to football practice – that SAFETY is the most important thing!

Of course it’s a lie. The NFL doesn’t care about the safety of every other player on the field, who endure far more punishing collisions on a regular basis. Worse yet, is that the NFL doesn’t care that games are being determined on these on-a-whim, hyper-sensitive, and totally non-reviewable calls.

And if the league doesn’t care, and doesn’t want to address it in the off-season via the competition committee (which they have shown repeatedly by their silence) then the next thing a fan will start to ask is…. “Why should I CARE then?” Why should I spend my money, my time, and freeze my ass off, if the NFL doesn’t really care that games are being decided by such nonsense?

  1. this is the way any father should be treated for taking his time on a five hour drive!—Driving is privilege not a right!

  2. Whoever plays qb for the Jets that should be the new poster for the quote ” That will leave a mark” not just on your body, but your career too!!!! They all suck and Namath was lucky.
