Terrible, terrible, tragedy for Tony Dungy and the Colts family. The death of his son, likely a suicide, comes at a time when Dungy should be drinking deeply from the sweetness of a career and life that is reaching it’s peak. There’s never a good time for this, but as fate would have it, Dungy is currently in a spot where he CAN be absent from the team for a good 2 weeks if needed.
There is a baseline of competence that even the most legendary of quarterbacks must meet. And Favre failed that on Monday. I'm not saying he "mailed it in" or was "tanking" but certainly the effort was soooo far below his standards that it stuck out like a sore thumb. And don't start with the "just trying to make a play" angle or the excuse of not having "any weapons around him."
One must wonder what Howard Cosell thinks of the impending "death" of Monday Night Football on broadcast TV? What must he think of the plan for TWO sideline reporters who are women? What would Cosell say about Chris Berman? All things to ponder, as MNF turns the page to cable.
A step has been taken. That’s all you need to say. A step, HAS been taken. It doesn’t mean that this team won’t take steps backward in the future. It doesn’t mean that this current step will lead to the playoffs.
But a step, is a step. And it has been taken.
When you dominate a rival, (wait a minute: DOMINATE. There, that’s better…) and you do it when it matters, and you do it without mercy, it means the sorry-case, sad-sack franchise that you ONCE knew is changing before your eyes.
There's only one thing worse than playing like ass against a lowly team like Arizona and winning. That's doing the same, and losing, which thankfully, my Redskins did NOT do on Sunday. Still, it looks like we're down to our last 5 plays on offense, which doesn't bode well come this Sunday when the BlueStars roll into town. How likely is a Joe Gibbs sweep of Bill Parcells? Not very. He's done it only twice in his career. MORE......
