On the one hand, the Redskins did EXACTLY what I told them to do. I said before the draft: “Take somebody you like. Don’t try to trade down, trade up, razzle-dazzle. Take the best player at that spot, period. Don’t play the “need” game. Just get a guy who is going to be a potential 10 year player.”
Played golf with Tim O’Neal of the Nationwide Tour Wednesday in Richmond. O’Neal has the distinction of being the only other African-American golfer on either the PGA Tour or Nationwide Tour besides one Eldrick T. Woods.....
All these years, all these theories of frozen envelopes. How silly. It was right in front of our nose. The great “Ewing Fix” was as hamhanded as a drunk at a roulette wheel trying to pull back his chips once the ball has landed.
Parry O'Brien (not pictured) was a true "man of genius." With one little twist, O'Brien revolutionized his sport, and gave future generations the defacto technique that now nobody tries to go against. I think we all know a "Parry O'Brien" of sorts in other sports areas. I want to find out who they are.
For whatever reason, I stumbled upon Spike on Saturday night, and remembered that Galdi told me there was a “free” PPV of UFC. Now, I didn’t follow what in the hell a “free” Pay-Per-View is all about (Galdi tried to explain, but I quickly lost interest) but since this was supposed to be a good one, I hunkered in to watch.
All of which leads me to the publishing of a very, very, VERY important piece of local meteorological “research” regarding “snow piles” in the greater Milwaukee area. My good friend Don Loken has emailed me this pictorial update of the menacing snow-pile....
I am going to make this my LAST post on the entire topic. This is not the forum, and no matter how many logical points that I (or others) might make, the overwhelming grief felt by all in this matter will dilute the clarity of the exchange of opinions. I include my own depressed mental state thinking about this, and anger in diluting the clarity of my own thoughts in yesterday’s post.
Grief, has turned to anger. Seething anger. So forgive me. Don’t give me the “hindsight is always 20/20” bull. Don’t give me the “this could happen at anytime, anywhere” excuse. In fact, don’t give ME any lame excuses, unless you are ready to say them to the faces of the family members who lost a child in Monday’s massacre.
It was a rather amusing weekend of sports and Czabe is just catching up with it all here. From the Sabres "new" uniforms (pssst! Don't tell him they are not that "new") to the race in Texas, Czabe hits all the hot spots. Sorta like Andre hitting Steffi right in her cake crusher. Oops!
In a rare accounting error, Westbrook got spiffed that cash TWICE. And guess what, even though he says he INTENDS to return the cash, he hasn’t gotten around to it…. yet. Thus, the team has been forced to go through the NFLPA’s official grievance procedure to make sure Westbrook doesn’t keep conveniently “forgetting” to send in that money.
Personally, I was shocked the NBA did NOT go after limiting guaranteed deals the last time they had the chance to write a new labor deal. I suppose they are making enough money now that there’s a “max salary” in place, that they can simply “write off” serial jerks like Bonzi Wells and his relatively small $4.4 million deal.
The Duke lacrosse rape case is finally dead. Let’s hope that Mike Nifong’s career will follow suit. When history puts its long angle lens on this whole sordid affair, it will go down as one of the worst media mob lynchings of innocent reputations of all time.
Pac Man Jones, meet Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde. Give credit to new NFL boss Roger Goodell for not waiting for the Las Vegas Metro police or the DA’s office to get off their asses on this cat and bring some charges. One full year. Pretty tough medicine. We’ll see if it scares the ankle-biting cop-baiter straight. Count me as skeptical.
What bugs me about typical mainstream reporting on "Global Warming" is that purely anecdotal weather occurences will be used as a precursor to blame on GW. An especially warm day in New York in February. Or a freak weather event. Hurricanes. Droughts. The answer is always "Global Warming." So where's the counter-argument based on a purely anecdotal event last weekend in Cleveland? Since most outlets won't, I will. Open your mind, and read.
Good for Zach Johnson. Everybody likes to root for the little guy, right? And for a guy like Johnson, who’s pint-sized, with medium length, to tame nasty Augusta this week? Fabulous. Gives every golfer hope that the game has not been totally reduced to “bomb and gouge” tactics thanks to titanium grapefruits cemented to carbon-fiber 52 inch shafts.
Is it wrong to make fun of people with bad golf swings? I think not. As part of the deal with the devil you make by playing this maddeningly impossible game, you accept that your own flaws will be highlighted by others. Perhaps even mocked. This gentleman, well, he's got a move unlike anything I've seen. We break it down here.
Pat Summitt would be an utter FAILURE if she were to try to coach a men’s Division I team. You heard me. FAILURE. In fact, she’d make Craig Esherick look like Coach K by comparison. A good part of that certain failure would be through no fault of her own. I explain why, here....
There is nothing like the first weekend in April for a golfer's soul. And the Masters has remained the most enduringly perfect golf tournament ever created. What ever happened to the cranky woman who caused such a fuss a few years ago? Czabe takes aim at the memory of "Fort Hootie" standing, and this year's field odds.
A mere 18 is a precocious age to accomplish such a feat, and one that her much more heralded LPGA-to-be player Michelle “DFL” Wie will now be hard pressed to match. Just remember all this, the next time Wie appears on T.V. – likely, finishing Dead F- Last in a men’s event she has no business playing.
Sorry to rain on anybody's fun, but jeezus-GAWD were those games AWFUL on Saturday night? It's okay to have a slow paced, defensively oriented contest, but how about some skill and execution while we are at it? A combined 44 minutes of Hibbert/Oden, and then a plain ol' ass-whippin' by the Gators that sent me to bed.
