But there’s no way to effectively “talk” hockey on sports radio, unless your specific team is in the series at hand, and you have a large enough pool of people who know the team intimately and watch each game thoroughly.
Every now and then, a high paid sports "analyst" falls in love with his own tortured logic, and says things which are absurd on their face. Doug Collins does this at least ONCE a game. Last night, might have been his crown jewel of stupidity.
Now that your hotdogs and beer have been fully digested, please take a moment to thank those who helped ensure that you were free to pursue drunken, sunburnt excess this past 3-day weekend.
In an effort to provide more and more content, on an increasingly “real time” news cycle, even “major” web publications (i.e. ESPN, SI, Sportsline, Fox Sports etc.etc.) are now hiring writers of very dubious credentials.
The bottom line is that Spurs fans should be still CLAMORING to embrace this ride their team is taking them on. While the Spurs enjoy the best team winning percentage in major American pro sports over the last decade, the fact is, it can all go away suddenly.
The other night, Andruw Jones went 0-5 with 5 strikeouts. In case you don’t know, that’s called a “Platinum Sombrero.” Huh, you say? How do they get that term? All that and more revealed in today's "Daily Czabe."
The NHL took a puck of shame right between the eyes on Saturday, as NBC galloped away for horsie PRE-game coveage, right before the Sabres and Senators were headed for a climactic overtime.
Mark Cuban was once called a nut for challenging the NBA to start collecting data on its refs and the calls they make. Sure enough, though, the league has started to just this, even though they haven't publicized it. What the results say, and what effects they are having, are mixed at best. Still, very fascinating.
With the week now almost over, I decided to shake out the ol' Outlook Inbox and see what edible sports morsels were still good to eat. Here's a sampler. From the Dream Team, to Shaq, to Gibbs, to a guy who clips a trailer full of Skittles. Life is a buffet. Go get another plate!
I hope they feel good about themselves, if they go on and win it all. Certainly, if nothing else, I will make sure to hang a virtual “radio asterisk” on any championship every time the subject comes up in the future.

Is Bruce Bowen a “dirty” player? Or just a “hard nosed” defender? For Spurs fans it’s the latter. For everybody else, the former. This is how it always works in sports. The guy on your team who gets into the head of other players, and under their skin is an unappreciated overachiever who “just wants to win.”
Upon Further Review... I've got some random thoughts from the weekend in sports. All in all, I would call this a "C" weekend. The NBA games weren't all that close, the golf was good but it was Phil, not Tiger. And aside from the Brett Favre "whine and cheese" show, not too much went down.
Tiger Woods said he thinks the 17th at Sawgrass would be better as the 8th hole, given how the diabolical island green can flush a player’s hard earned play all week, just two holes from the finish.
Time to play one of my favorite games in sports: “’Member When…?” This is not about things that were WAY old school, but things that seem like not so long ago, but you laugh when somebody brings them up today. Here we go…
To give a patch to a drunken b-list middle reliever who committed attempted vehicular manslaughter is a farce and an affront to every family who has ever been torn to pieces by a drunk driver. For some reason, sports is willing to rush behind all kinds of causes they deem worthy but I’ve never seen a “M.A.A.D.” patch on anybody’s hat or jersey, have you?
Czabe tries to play catch-up after what turned out to be a blockbuster weekend of spectacular sports stories and upsets. In terms of the "Best Sports Weekends" of the calendar year, I think this one might actually be #1 in the clubhouse so far.
The 5th Annual Malcolm McLeod Memorial Tournament was held this past weekend in Pinehurst, with 23 of my "best" friends. Otherwise known as 23 guys who got their checks in to me on time.
If it sounds like I am fed up with the glorification of PGA Tour swing “coaches” these days, you got it. The most recent news is that Phil Mickelson has changed from longtime “mentor” Rick Smith to former Tiger “sensei” Butch Harmon.
I don’t mean to alarm anybody, but apparently we can’t even beat China at yacht racing. China. What in the name of Dennis Freaking Connor is going on?
