But She Got To Check Out Some Sweet John Deere Lawn Tractors!

So Michelle went Wie Wie Wie all the way home again. Okay, I’m not gonna gloat, because I’m not rooting against her, per se. I’m just trying to point out that she has yet to WIN anything lately, and I think that is the name of the game. Where’s Herman Edwards when you need him? I have tried in the past to research Michelle’s actual Junior Golf and Amateur Victories. It’s not that easy. In fact, Wie incredibly does not have her own website! At least it didn’t come up in my google search. She does however, have a listing on PGATour.com. Read into that, what you want. Oh yeah, just for reference. How many times did Tiger try to make the cut at a PGA Tour event? Eight. Finally making it at age 19 at the Masters. He played the 1992 Nissan Open as a 16 year old in his first event, but missed the cut.
There’s an assumption that because Wie is only 15, that she’ll continue to improve. Most likely, yes. But it’s not a given. Golf is a sport where sometimes players regress, inexplicably so. Sometimes players plateau, and don’t improve much. There’s burnout, mental fatique, and motivation. Sure, it looks like Wie has a Tiger-esque drive that is not about to fade. But the brain changes as you get older, just like the body. Using the current chronological “logic” on how good Michelle Wie will be at age 25, you would think she’d be the #1 player in men’s golf. I’d dare say I’ll take the “under” on that one.
So far though, most Tour guys (even ones getting spanked by her) are taking it well. Publicly, at least. There’s no gain to be had by bashing her sponsors exemption invites in the press. You’ll get branded an instant chauvinist, elitist, scaredy-cat, and probably racist by the MSM. If nothing else, the men know that a “rising tide lifts all boats.” Michelle Wie, should she ever play the PGA Tour full time, will mean more money, higher TV ratings and increased purses. The fact that she’ll be just good enough to compete, but not good enough to dominate, I’m sure entices the economic brains of the Tour’s independent contractors.
NOTE: If you do come across, or compile on your own, Michelle’s complete Junior/Amatuer/LPGA/PGA history, do pass it along, and I’ll post it here for future reference.
NOTE II: I see where Michelle is wearing Nike shirts these days. Hmmm. Must like how they… ahem.. .”fit.” Or perhaps that’s “all they had in the shop” when she was there. Cough, cough. Even though Wie can’t take dime one from the Swoosh until she’s a pro, you can be DAMN sure that her agent will tally the pre-contractual air-time Wie gave to Nike as a 15 year old, and bill the company appropriately.

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve:
When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules".
I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down.
See ya, donkey,
Terry Rindt
