Call Me, The HDTV Vigilante!

I am the Bernie Goetz of high definition.
I will do what needs to be done, in order to exact justice.
Okay, I won’t SHOOT anybody, but when I am pushed, I don’t react well.
Take for example, a local sports “watering hole” in the D.C. area that is advertising these days about how “great” it is to come watch sports and eat wings and drink beer at their place.
The name of the place rhymes with “Mean Hurdle.”
Here’s the problem. This place has lots and lots of flat screen TV’s. It even has an impressive 10-foot “wall” of combined displays that LOOK to the untrained eye, like it’s actual HIGH definition.
Even the aspect ratio is 16x9.
Don’t be fooled. It’s not.
Crummy, stretched, 4x3 picture in 480p.
If I were an “HD inspector” I’d shut the place down in a heartbeat. How dare they! It’s an outrage. And now you are advertising about how great it is to watch a GAME at your place? In pathetic STANDARD def, pawned off as HIGH def?
Is you crazy?
If city governments can appoint “health inspectors” then why not “HD inspectors” to shut down places like this, or at least force them to upgrade. It’s nothing short of consumer fraud. Either put back the boxy, 4x3 analog tube sets, or go full HD. There is no middle ground.
Sure, the wings at the place are pretty good. The atmosphere, not bad.
But I’m tired of these frauds, and I’m calling them out!
Like Bernie on that subway platform. I can only be pushed so far.

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve:
When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules".
I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down.
See ya, donkey,
Terry Rindt
