Let's Pray It Will Never Actually Happen

Here we go again.
Just when you thought Dan Snyder was out of the star sniffing business, Chris Mortensen files this dispatch regarding the “Chad Johnson Derby.”
The Redskins offered this year's first round pick, No. 21 overall, and a conditional third rounder in 2009 that could escalate to a first rounder if Johnson and the Redskins hit certain performance levels, the sources said.
It was not the first time the Redskins approached the Bengals about a deal but it was the first significant proposal.
The Bengals have not only rejected the Redskins, but two other NFC East suitors -- the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles -- have been informed that there has been no change in the team's position that Johnson will not be traded.
For the record, as a Skins fan I want no part of this guy. His act, is lame. And while talented, the constant me-me-me drama is hardly worth it. For the record, what the hell did the Bengals win WITH him, anyway?
And they had another bad-ass in T.J. Houshmazilli (Put it on the board… championship!) along with a productive back in Rudi Johnson. And yeah, a Pro Bowl lazer-thrower in Carson Palmer.
In know, defense. They had no defense.
Still, wide receiver is the car stereo of the NFL. Everybody wants one that is loud, fancy, and makes the girls go “whoo whoooo!” It don’t make your car run, however.
And I can’t imagine a more green coach like Jim Zorn trying to manage Chad’s ego. Also, I hear from “sources” that Clinton Portis is actively recruiting Chad. Fine. Wait until Ocho Cinco starts stealing news-cycles on the Thursday press conferences from Kid Bro Sweets.
Then the real fun begins.
On the whole, a 1st and a conditional 3rd is fair “value” for Chad if you look at simple numbers. But I also know when a player is more headache than he’s worth, and for our transitional team, not expected to go far this year, why bother?
So much for being patient, and building through the draft. Looks like the “patient” approach lasted all of 3 months for Dan Snyder.
Cue the clowns, the circus is coming back to town.

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve:
When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules".
I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down.
See ya, donkey,
Terry Rindt
