Marcus Vick Is NFL Combine Mystery Man

At the NFL combine, all the top players are hiding their skills, for fear that the only thing that can happen to their draft standing is bad.
Reggie Bush won’t run the 40.
Matt Leinart won’t throw deep balls.
Vince Young won’t participate in accuracy drills.
And sadly, Marcus Vick won’t be taking anybody to the “Gun Show.”
Zing!
All of which begs the question: can’t anybody in the league MAKE these guys do this stuff? I guess not, since you aren’t property of the mighty red-white-and-blue shield until AFTER you get drafted and signed to a contract.
ESPN.com’s Michael Smith noted that of all the press clippings the NFL hands out about players at the combine, Vick’s – curiously – had only one clip about a required public service appearance he made years ago. Hmmm.
Smith catches everbody up on all the “other stuff” that the league might want you to forget.
Like the one-game suspension in 2003, his redshirt freshman season, for undisclosed reasons.
The arrest for allegedly allowing underage girls to have alcohol at a party and May 2004 conviction on three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The July 2004 arrest for reckless driving and marijuana possession. The suspension for the Fall '04 semester.
The obscene gesture he made to West Virginia fans in October 2005. Stomping on the left calf of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil in the Gator Bowl in January.
Speeding and driving with a suspended license, an incident that led to the university, which had had him on a "zero tolerance policy," dismissing him Jan. 6 for "a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play [in the Gator Bowl]," in the words of Tech president Charles Steger.
Two days after being kicked out of school and a day after announcing he would forgo his senior season and turn pro, Vick was charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm for allegedly drawing a gun on three teenagers in a fast food restaurant's parking lot.

Sooooo… how’s that Steve Francis-Stephon Marbury thing going so far? Riiiiggggghhht. In two games, the Knicks have been roasted (of course, they were getting roasted before) but especially glaring was the 46-point blowtorching by Gilbert Arenas Saturday.
The man we call “Net-Zero” here in D.C. went 13-16 from the floor, 7-10 from three-point range, and 13-14 from the line. Then he sat the 4th quarter.
Now I didn’t see who was “guarding” him per se, but I gotta believe it was either Marbury or Francis for a while. And you can expect more of these nights to erupt from opposing two guards in the East, as the Isiah Thomas project continues to go up in smoke.

Kudos to Tom Lehman for playing such good golf these last two and a half years after everyone had written him off as no longer a factor. Lehman has dropped about 25 pounds and is deadly with that broom-putter.
Now here’s the question: what if he’s top 12 in Ryder Cup points? Should he remain as captain but still suit up for us and play? Or can he let his assistants handle some of his duties?
He was 15th in points going into the Accenture, and there are some pretty scary names right now ahead of him: Lucas Glover, Vaughn Taylor, Ryan Palmer. I think Lehman might have to bring a pair of spikes with him to the K-Club this fall, just in case.

Now maybe I’m the one who is totally nuts, but how could the Patriots not franchise tag the man who is the most clutch kicker in the modern era? Sure, giving Vinitieri that tag would cost the Pats $3 million or so on their cap for a kicker, and that’s a very high number.
But do you want to be the one that is responsible for trotting out Joe Nedney or some replacement, and saying: “Don’t worry. This guy is just as good” when there’s a tough kick on the road in bad conditions to win a critical game in December?
Yeah right. I say pay the man, and skimp elsewhere.

Here’s your picture of the day…. Is there any way to see Britney as "hot" again, no matter how much she works back into "fighting shape?"

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve:
When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules".
I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down.
See ya, donkey,
Terry Rindt
