Start Learning, Roundeyes!

Every now and then, you run across an opinion piece on the internet that is so shocking in it's ignorance and stupidity, that it stops you in your tracks.
Friedman:
After attending the spectacular closing ceremony at the Beijing Olympics and feeling the vibrations from hundreds of Chinese drummers pulsating in my own chest, I was tempted to conclude two things: "Holy mackerel, the energy coming out of this country is unrivaled." And, two: "We are so cooked. Start teaching your kids Mandarin."
Okay, I'm going to pass on the whole broad spectrum of what China's influence on the world stage will be in the next 20-40 years. Obviously, they will be a big factor.
But let me just bear down on the statement: "We are so cooked. Start teaching your kids Mandarin."
Are you f'ing kidding me?
"Cooked?" Really. Should we surrender now, Tom?
And regarding Mandarin as a language of the modern, 21st century? Get real! It has to be one of the least efficient, technology un-friendly languages this side of cave drawing and smoke signals!
In fact, it's a small miracle that a country so large, and relatively "advanced," could still be hunched over looking at tiny little pictures of pagodas circled by birds that mean "happiness" in order to read a book.
Now granted, Friedman quickly backs up by saying those were just initial gut thoughts, and that experience has taught him better. But to even have those thoughts, and to deem them worthy of writing, shows what a moron he is.
I've only done a cursory looksee at China's future. I'm no expert. But I'm not real worried about them kicking our asses anytime soon. Brutal totalitarianism has had a long and virtually uninterrupted losing streak in history, and I think China isn't about to break it.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep your boot on the necks of 1.3 billion people? Especially in an age of global media, and new technology?
Sure, the Chinese have enjoyed a boom 20 years. But many experts say that a bust cycle is coming, which ain't gonna be much fun.
But the ChiComm's sure did snow Friedman good. Hope he bought a few t-shirts while he was there.

One last bit of head slamming idiocy. Courtesy, Barack Obama in his speech on Thursday night in the "House That Jake Plummer Built."
"More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can't afford to drive, credit card bills you can't afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach. These challenges are not all of government's making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush."
One poster summed it up best with this response.
So basically, even though these problems aren't the government's fault, the government should fix them. Another way of putting that is, the fault lies with people who spent more than they earned, and Obama is going to make the fiscally responsible people pay for it.
MY TAKE: Amen, amen. Liberal ideology always goes thusly. "Probably, you (lightly informed citizen) are incapable of running your own life. Likely, you are a victim. Don't worry, you may not feel like a victim, but we have a category of victimhood to fit just about everybody. But good news! If you vote for us, we'll give you something, or "fix" a "problem" that is totally out of our ability to "fix." When that "fix" doesn't take, we won't admit our mistake, we'll just ask for more money. Uncle Sam is here to help." Makes you want to vomit.

Obama acts like he wants to gut anyone who is is above his beloved Middle Class, but his book allowed him to buy a big house and IIRC, he has made over $4M from its sales. I'm sure he'll find every way possible to avoid paying his share of taxes.
People are losing their homes because they shouldn't have been granted mortgages in the first place. My bank gave me a hard time about a $9 overdue balance I didn't know about and these people got a loan because they fogged up a spoon. People who don't have a pot to piss in shouldn't be driving Escalades, Navigators and Hummers.
What a freakin' turd.
For all of their talk about helping people throughout this marathon DemoRatic campaign/debacle, I want to know how many hundreds of millions of dollars were spent by the candidates? I don't care that it wasn't their money, I just think they're hypocrites for spending so much to repeatedly say the same thing. Hell, they could have just taped it and played it around the country.
Why does Czabe.com keep directing me to The Weekly Standard? I wish there was more going on in the sports world (NFL starting, CFB starting, FedEx Cup, Pennant Races, Sprint Cup {in the commonwealth!}). That way the discussion on "The Official Sports Blog of Steve Czabian" could focus more on sports.
Obama 2008 = CARTER 2.0
"Obama 2008 = CARTER 2.0"
And the last 8 years have just been effin' awesome, huh?
Gas 4-5 times as much. My 401k can barely gain any ground, if at all. I'm making the same amount I was back in '00 due to all the overseas outsourcing. I've had to switch jobs 2-3 times to avoid lay-offs or by being laid off. The previous ten years I had 2 jobs and my income increased 2.5 times. Not like I started out making that much, but it was still an increase.
This site is getting ridiculous with the right wing rampage. Don't get me wrong, I hate the left wing tree huggers that pretend things will change instantaneously as well. I feel like I'm voting for the lesser of two evils since they're all crooks looking for the buck. But I'm not ignorant enough to look outside of my own party to make my life better.
Let's get back to what makes Czabe's morning show great. SPORTS
Oh please, Czabe. Are you the only person allowed to use a little hyperbole in your columns?
As for Obama, you pubes better get your trailers cleaned up and rebel flags put away. Obama's gonna be the man for the next eight.
C'mon Czabe, I love your show and blog, but you entirely missed the point of Friedman's article if all you can harp on are his initial reactions. Can't disagree about Obama's remarks about helping people who bought cars they can't afford though - a little scary.
A note to those that think Obama will lead us to prosperity.
When George took office, the country was in negative growth from the Clinton era. As bad as it is now, we still haven't had that since. The country then survived 9/11 and the economy took off. Now, it's in a downturn.
There are many reasons as to why gas is so high. Here are two quick ones. Millions of new drivers from developing countries have increased the demand and drilling restrictions in the US that stop oil companies from drilling here.
A democrat in the White House would not have stopped the cost of gas going up.
As to Mondos gripe about losing jobs oversees, take a look at ALL the DEMOCRATIC RESTRICTIONS that are placed on companies. The cost is so high to operate here, so they have to outsource in order to survive. The #1 producer - China has no restrictions on what they do.
Thanks to Czabe for throwing in a pinch of political talk with all the sports. Most of his listeners aren't one dimensional, are they?
Mondo, and it's W/Cheney's fault that your job situation became tenuous? Please. Some industries have been contracting or moving jobs overseas for years. And it knows no party lines - I'll bet it's 50/50 on which are run by Dems or Repubs. Clinton had the internet boom the first 6 years of his stay at the WH - he did NOTHING to make that happen. And like others have said, the economy was already tanking his last year.
I'm not thrilled that politics has started to get into sports talk either Hosel Rocket. But most of it, here in LA it's all of it, is usually from the left. So I enjoy Czabe's efforts to level set.
The economy will always have ups and downs. I recall George senior running for a second term. The economy was down and he was voted out. When you look back you will notice that time period was small. Always think Long Term with the economy. Second point. How is that democrat congress doing for you?
@mondo
Aren't most of the job issues you're talking about, due to out-sourcing, etc, a direct result of NAFTA? Maybe I'm just an idget, but wasn't it Bubba who signed off on NAFTA, making it the reality we're dealing with? Maybe kicking the Donkey in the rear end is a better tack than blindly blaming everything including your hangover on Dubya. The man can't be responsible for everything.
Mondo43 and bourbonsprawl, exactly what is it in Sen. Obama's record that shows he is, as he claims, a "post-partisan unifier"? Exactly what is it in his record that shows he would govern as anything other than a hard-left, partisan liberal?
[crickets chirping]
OK. Think it over. I've got time.
Like I said, it's a lesser of 2 evils..... Politician's voting for tax breaks for companies sending crap over seas. Not Dem, Not Rep, BOTH. And it's ironic watching all these recalls from China due to the unregulated manufacturing practices.
And actually I was more than willing to vote for McCain in 2000. Over EVERYONE ELSE. Now everything is just up in the air. I actually try to do as much research as I can before I vote. I still have 2 months to do so. There's a lot that can be said before now and then, and everything to be taken with a million grains of salt.
And I find it funny now that McCain announced his running mate: Who are these old school people going to vote for. A black President, or a woman VP? I am going to vote for who I think will fit my needs the best. I don't care which party they belong to.
Mondo43, who are "these old school people" you assume will not vote for a black person to be President or a woman to be Vice President? I knew the moment I first read your posting - no, even before I read it - that you were judgmental. (dry irony intended).
Czabe, the new format still sucks ass.
Mondo,
"I am going to vote for who I think will fit my needs the best. I don't care which party they belong to."
Phew, that's much better than that "lesser of two evils" crap. That's the copout of the uninformed voter.
And yeah, Obama is a hard core left-winger.
McCain actually does have a track record of working with Democrats towards a common goal. He took alot of crap for it too. Just ask Russ Feingold.
I'm old enough (40) to remember when everybody was scared to bejesus about Japan taking over the world, about how we'd all better learn Japanese. How'd that turn out?
Crickets will be chirping for a long time, Doc.
Besides viability, why vote for McCain or Obama? I'll be voting my conscience. You should all consider doing the same.
-Ron Paul has NEVER voted to raise taxes.
-Ron Paul has NEVER voted for an unbalanced budget.
-Ron Paul has NEVER voted to raise congressional pay.
-Ron Paul has NEVER taken a government-paid junket.
-Ron Paul has NEVER voted to increase executive branch power.
-Ron Paul voted AGAINST the Patriot Act.
-Ron Paul voted AGAINST regulating the internet.
-Ron Paul voted AGAINST the war in Iraq.
-Ron Paul does NOT participate in the lucrative congress pension plan.
-Ron Paul returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
-The only major candidate to speak about monetary policy, the proximate reason for our current economic crisis.
Ron Paul is a major candidate? Don't you need at least 15% of the votes to be considered "major"?
I'm not certain that I could tell you the difference between Ron Paul and RuPaul if you showed me pictures of the two.
Well, maybe.
I guess I should agree with mondo.
I think czabe should lay off the political banter
and I think he should should do it just as soon as every other entertainer stops. I was at the Stevie Wonder concert, that I paid huge bucks for to hear him sing. Instead I heard an Obama love fest. I went to a Roger Waters concert that I paid good money for, and I heard an I hate GW speech. I paid to hear him sing not to be a big fat liberal. I and you pay nothing to listen to or read Czabe so you are out nothing. I could go on and on about the hollywood types who get a free pass on there spew because the silent majority remains silent while the whiney left cry about this that and the other thing. I say enough is enough. Instead of whiney liberals, I say we start hearing from pissed off conservatives. Lets hear it and if you disagree with me explain what "huge" tax breaks oil companies are getting. Pleas I would love to hear it because there are none.
Well, you know, anyone who is super offended by Czabe's political leanings does have an alternative. His name is Keith Olbermann. FWIW, I loathe the Skins, but Czabe can't help he was born and raised on the mean streets of McLean. So I am not gonna hold that against him. It's kind of like the Palestinians and Israelis; they didn't get to choose where they were born. And Czabe when are we gonna get a Sarah Palin snickie?
Mondo, Mondooo. Cartman is correct about China and no restrictions on manufacturing and everything else for that matter. Here is a little example of how China operates in the world of business. They will make a super low bid on a job just so they can get the blueprints to the parts or product. Then they can go back to China and make all the knockoffs they want forever with no rules on how they manufacture that product. It seems to me that you have no idea all the crap that companies in America must do to manufacture a product. The EPA and OSHA make it super expensive to do anything. Does China have an EPA or OSHA ? No way. They shut down all their plants so the smoke would clear for the Olympics. I have a brother and a cousin that travel to China numerous times a year. You would not believe some of the crazy stuff they see. There are no rules in China basically from what they see in the world of manufacturing. So much more to say, no time here. Czabe, keep up the good work.
Obama is friends with Bill Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist. he and his group bombed the US Capitol and police stations.
John McCain got the hell kicked out of his by the Viet Cong.
End of story.
Who are you going to vote for now commie?
czabe-
Man I love your show and takes on 96.9 the fox in the morning with bob and brian. i look forward to your spot on the show, like a yuppie needs his starbucks in the morning! BUT, i have to disagree with your thoughts on Obama and his charge to change things for people that are in financial ruins.
I live in Kimberly, WI and have recently lost my job due to the closure of a paper mill here. If you could tell me what or where i went wrong!? I have a beautiful wife, and 2 kids, a mortgage and 2 autos with a lien on one, which I pay both each and every month, diligently. My credit score is over 700, and dont have credit card debt.
Wtih this job I was able to live comfortable, not luxurious but comfortable. I made enough money so my wife could be home and take care of the kids. We didnt have everything but enough for happiness.
Doomsday came, the plant is closing and now I am scrambling to find a job so i can keep my home, and cars, which are 4 door sedans, not escalades. I CAN NOT AFFORD THEM NOW!! I would love to have you tell me I over spent! Tell me it is my fault I cant pay the bills. I gave my soul to this plant to have them tell me i dont have a job after 23 years. To pile on, there are people like you who I pay your wage by listening, telling me to suck it up and pay my bills! Had the government tightened the tax break to companies that outsourced jobs, my job, i would still be working and able to pay my bills!!
Yes you are right there are people that over spent in the housing market boom of a few years ago. what you are overlooking is that they took out no income verification loans, that were subsidized by the government! This is what Obama is trying to straighten out.
you comments seem to be very short sighted and mis-informed. i know this is not possible, but heaven forbid they find cheaper talking heads over the airwaves, and outsource your job to someone overseas and you lose your job! Tell me are you going to roll up your sleeves, and get your hands dirty doing a job no one else will do, to pay your bills, or are you going to think...hmmm maybe the government should step in and possibly help keep my job in america, and let me do, what i am trained and loved to do everyday!
Just something to chew on Steve-O! I am not trying to rant here but there are people that could not avoid the economic situation that was created by money hungry donkeys, both, government and private!
so please keep to what you do best and that is SPORTS, cause you are not good for government talk. I think I am the only one that gets it, and that is regardless who you put in office, there is always going to be losers!
I feel bad for neddy. Talk about taking it up the ass. I hope things turn around for him.
But,
Anyone that bought a house that they couldn't afford = idiot.
Anyone that gets into credit card debt = idiot.
Anyone that bitches that they can't afford college tuition = idiot.
Not long ago, I saw a report on the news about a guy and his wife that entered into a no money down mortgage on a house that "we just fell in love with". Then they were crying that they couldn't afford it because they had 4 high school age sons and the wife's hours got cut back at work. Well, idiots, maybe you should have planned for something bad happening, just in case?
I've never purchased anything on credit that I couldn't afford to pay for. Hell, I put a new $18,000 Harley on a credit card. But, I saved for that SOB for years and had the funds to pay the bill when it came.
And, what ever happened to working a job to help pay for college? When my savings ran out for tuition, I got Guaranteed Student Loans to cover the cost until I graduated. And, if you can't afford a high priced university, there's state college and tech schools. Like Tom Cruise said in "Risky Business" when Princeton turned him down, "It looks like it's the University of Illinois!"
The Dems are going to turn this country into a nation of whining pussies.
I know one thing, when I saw tape of Sarah Palin visiting the troops in Iraq, dressed in a t shirt and squeezing off rounds from an M-16 at the rifle range, I got a tingle in Mr. Happy.
P.S.. if Czabe wants to throw in some politics, fine. It's his site. You don't like it, just read the sports stuff. I enjoy educated debate.
Obama for the next 8? Are you kidding me??? First of all, sure G W isn't going to win any awards as the best president in the world, but if the Communits Party... i mean democratic party could off some better competition we wouldn't have been in that situation. Al Gore and John Kerry??? Are you freaking kidding me??? They make G W look like a rocket scientist! Obama may win, only because people want a change of scenery, but as soon as they realize that change of scenery is still the same dump it is today, he'll be out in 4!
so silly. the economic troubles with our country are affecting both liberals and conservatives, democrats and republicans. i dont see how giving tax breaks to the super wealty and just plain wealthy is going to help the people who need it. problems can be fixed, to admit defeat before trying is a certain way to to end in defeat. transfering the weight of taxation to the wealthy is not popular with the wealthy and they are very powerful and willing to say and do just about anything to make sure they keep their money and power and the general status quo. there is a very interesting article in the nyt rightnow that analyzes the economic status of our country post world war 2 till now.
Economic View: Is History Siding With Obama’s Economic Plan?
if you have the time you should read it, for instead of ranting foolishly along party lines one can analyze some data then begin a real discussion of how we should best try to go about making our great country better for everyone lucky enough to live here. no puking necessary, only open minded, thoughtful ideas with which to intelligently debate policy.
fucking happy ass liberal tree hugging bike riding child rearing wife loving book reading athiest science teacher
jloperfido, tax breaks for the rich? It's called Trickle Down. Remember David Stockman? He was right - even if it doesn't sound Politically Correct. The richest 3% pays something like 75% of the taxes now. Piss them off by making them pay even more and maybe they just sit on their wealth instead of starting new businesses, investing money in more equipment and employees, etc. Everyone in this country can have a better life - it's called Education and Hard Work. The poor don't buy in - and generation after generation they fall further behind. Sorry, not my fault - and you and your teachers' union can keep your hand off my wallet - we could blow $100k per kid and they wouldn't learn. Handouts are temporary - and the poor usually blow them on booze, lung darts, and lap dances - not the necessities.
I wonder whatever happened to the middle in this country. It seems to have disappeared and all we're left with is two bickering sides that don't get each other. Also, both sides seem to be guilty of not doing their homework or thinking about things critically. Instead, they go and read information (however correct or incorrect) that confirms their point of view and seem happy that way. They swallow every piece of brainwashing crap their side produces. I could go and try to refute all the incorrect information here, but that'd be a waste of my time and I doubt it'd do any good. Instead, I'll pick on the last poster here. Below is information that can be found on the IRS web site:
http://www.irs.gov/taxstats/indtaxstats/article/0,,id=133521,00.html
The average tax paid per income bracket is 12.75% for all tax filers.
Average income tax rate on top 1% of earners is 23.81%
5% of earners is 21.24%
10% of earners is 19.25%
25% of earners is 16.20%
50% of earners is 14.15%
The percent of all income earned breaks down like this:
Top 1% of all income earners made 21.1% of the income
Top 5% of all income earners made 35.9% of the income
After all is said and done, the top 1% of wage earners account for 39.4% of all income taxes paid and the top 5% of wage earners account for 59.8% of all income taxes paid. Yes, they are paying a bigger percentage of the tax total, but if you look at the income % it is pretty well porportional.
Now, being in the top 5% bracket, I can say that I wouldn't mind paying more taxes if it would be a better education for people. I'm getting sick of all the stupid people in this country.

Don't preach to me about what I do and don't know, you don't know what I do for a living. Go ahead and ask me how many of my designs have been ripped off less than a year after they went into production over in China. I guess I have no idea, you're right. I fight hard for the local company to do our injection molding. Want to know why? Because they have better QC, they take care of us, they are within a 30 minute drive when something comes up. It might cost a little more, but it's well worth it.
"Mondo43, who are "these old school people" you assume will not vote for a black person to be President or a woman to be Vice President? I knew the moment I first read your posting - no, even before I read it - that you were judgmental." - doc
I can't even count how many times I hear the n-bomb dropped when I hear people talking about Obama or any black person. But they are the same people who wouldn't vote for HC just because she was a woman. Those were the 'major' points they brought up when talking about who they would vote for. They don't want to vote for McCain either because he has a woman as his running mate. Decisions, decisions....
Yeah I'm judgemental. Ask my friends who I hang around with. They range from laborers to millionaire land developers, white to black, and everything in between. I don't care who people are, as long as they respect me, I respect them.
