NASCAR vs. Formula One
Hey Czabe,
I'm a 33 yr old Milwaukee born transplant living now since ' 95 in your old stomping ground of Charlotte NC. I regularly listen to B&B via the internet when I'm in the office. This morning toward the end of your segment with "Da Boys" I couldn't help but pull myself closer to the speakers of my computer like a kid listening to War of the Worlds back in the day. The topic at hand? A brotha geeked about F1. I absolutely feel his passion for the sport. Czabe, you really need to take a look at this sport and give it it's due air time. As the joker said "Lets broaden our minds, Laurence".

Hey Ladies!! This is an internation sport, traveling to literally every continent in the world. If your schtick is Latino looking girls, theres the GP of Brasil. How about Asian beauties, you got a few Malaysia, Chinese, Japanese Grand Prix. Maybe a little Italian spice? We got'em. The list goes on and on. There's the curvaseous "umbrella girls" who stand on the grid prior to the race, who's sole job is to look good in these unbelievably fitted clothes that punctuate their ASSets, and shield the driver from direct sun light. As a fan attending the race you definately want to get a pit pass and walk the paddock where major sponsors hire these genetic freaks to get you to look at their products. How about the girls that just show up at the race as fans?
NASCAR doesn't have anything on F1. Czabe if you go to F1play.com and go to f1 babes you'll have enough material to start a hottie of the day to last you a lifetime. In some respects, F1 is uncharted territory for a brotha looking to find a sea of beauties. I myself am a white male, however when I went to various races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI you would see the occational black guy. In fact Walter Payton found his nirvana as a race car driver in his post Bears days.

F1 is a technologicly driven sport. The thing I like about it is that the teams are also Constructors. They design / build / test and bring new technology to the sport within the perameters of the rules that allow the sport to be different from a dictatorship sport like NASCAR which is nothing more than a spec series now. Because big car manufactures like BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Ferrari all compete as team owners and constructors, these technologies trickle down into their domestic cars over time.

I think that the single most reason I'm a fan is because its a managable season to watch as a fan. You don't have a 120 game season like basketball, or a 180+ game season like baseball where, if your a true fan of these sports, lets face it your not going to be able to watch every game. Some baseball games are played at 2:00 pm in the afternoons. Unless your some bum living on the streets, who's got time to watch that game? Same reason why I think football has more fans than most mainstream sports is because of their schedual. Both F1 and Football are played on the weekends. F1 might go two to three weeks inbetween races because of their venue locations and most teams are headquartered in Europe. Hence, its a logistics nightmare.
Just one other note. Think back to the true NASCAR fan of old for a moment. Oh say maybe back in the mid to late 80's. Back then fans followed a team more because of what was under the hood. If you were a Chevy fan you might have a favorite driver but you would never cross that line and cheer for a Ford based team or Pontiac for that matter. Look at the sport now. All the fans have favorite drivers and which ever team he signs up with doesn't matter to them. It's become a fan of the drivers not the brand. I strongly believe that as an F1 fan, you still have that of the latter. We are more loyal to the brand then the driver.
Go FERRARI .
P.S. Fox robs us f1 fans of the all access experience of the race weekend by there narrowed coverage. To really get a sense of the sport watch them when their on Speed tv. Thank god fox only buys 4 events a yr. Even that is too much.
See ya....

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve:
When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules".
I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down.
See ya, donkey,
Terry Rindt

this might be a dumb question, but why don't Danica Patrick go Nascar on us?
-- Sue, The 330
Formula 1 is phenomenal and I truly hope I can live to see the day once again when an American driver will win a F1 race and can hear the Star Spangled Banner from the podium. Thanks Phil Hill, Mario,Dan Gurney, Scott Speed, Ritchie Ginther, and all the other USA drivers who took part and, in Mario's and Phil's case, won the world championship. I'm sorry that the rumors about Danica testing for Honda were unfounded, but Formula 1 rules. Go Ferrari (especially Felipe) and Go McLaren (especially Lewis).
Well done, Mike. I am a race fan, pure & simple. Whether it's F1, IRL, NASCAR or the local short track, I'm hooked. Hell, if Versus would broadcast kindergarten kids on trikes from the playground, I'd watch. I love the pure technical balls to the wall pursuit of speed that is F1. I also love the good ol' boy, rubbin' is racin' excitement of NASCAR.
Sue, the reason I hear that Danica won't race in NASCAR is the long schedule. NASCAR races 36 weekends per year. IRL races about half that. I suppose she could make more money in NASCAR, but I reckon she's pretty well compensated today.
