Not Buyin' Favre's Act

I agree with you that Favre is being a hillbilly and I think he has been doing this for over 3 years already. Being the big drama queen over retiring, like he is the only person on earth who has to ever retire or even be forced out of a job.

But, don't you think Rodgers would really like to have him back? Think about it, Rodgers has been in the league for 3 or 4 years now collecting nice checks. If he would have gone to a team that needed a QB right away, do you really think he would be in the league yet or a starting QB? Rodgers probably wants hillbilly to play another 2 or 3 years, that way he (Rodgers) will get a better retirement plan for tenure in the NFL, even as a back up.

Start looking at the positives for Rodgers once in a while.

He's got a point. Most QB's have either flamed out or established themselves by now.

If Rodgers does eventually flame out, he will have been in the league longer than he would have been otherwise because of Brett.

Uh, no. That'd be sound logic.... if it weren't for the fact that if you make it to the NFL you want to play and think you're better than the jamoke in front of you. So, no, Aaron Rodgers doesn't want Favre back. That's a no brainer. Now, if it's in his best interest..... only time will tell, but you could be right there. Although a 5 year backup could probably hold a clipboard for a long, long time, so job "security" probably isn't much of an issue.

Brunell, Hassellback, Ty Detmer....

I bet all of them liked getting into pension land riding the bench. 2 out of the 3 became pretty decent starters after getting out of GB.

If Joey Harrington and David Carr can still be in the league, I think Rodgers would be just fine.

Rodgers would have been better suited if Favre would have gone down for more than a half and was able to put up some decent numbers for a few games. That would have been Dan Marino/Scott Mitchell part Deux.

That is nosense. Aaron Rodgers has been the best QB all of his life and now he has to sit on this bench for 3, maybe 4 years. HE WANTS TO PLAY. Don't forget, if he performs well, he's on a 12 win team heading into a new contract. Yeah, I'm sure he wants Favre to come back so he can sign a 4 year-7 million contract instead of a 5year- 20 million one.

First of all, the Packers weren't that good last year - they had a lot of good fortune: e.g. Week 1 - Andy Reid forgot to find someone in preseason who could field punts - two muffs lead to two short field scores and the Pack get a victory they never should have. They also played the Giants before they got their shit together.
Back to Favre - he's a 220 lb. assclown. Go home, Jethro! And like they said to Clemens when he fled Boston, go brush that one big tooth in the front of your mouth!

Before I said to jump on Mortenson for making something out of nothing....I am sorry for the errs of my way. Personally, I agree that Favre is acting like a diva at this point.

He needs a smart PR person like he needs to avoid throwing into triple coverage. If he brought his hillbilly accent to the Greta interviews and simply said, "I know I have tormented Green Bay management and fans for the past three years with more waffling and flip-flopping than any politician imaginable. For that I am sorry. I did not mean to put anyone through any such torment, but I genuinely did not know if I had the commitment and heart to continue putting my body through the abuse and rigors demanded during an NFL season and pre-season. Like a true addict to competition, I find myself wanting to play yet another season. If the consequences for my lack of commitment through the entire off season is to compete for the starting job, then so be it....bring on the competition. The fire to compete is still burning and I want to show that on any field available."

If he had taken this approach, the court of public opinion would have been his for the taking, but by not taking ownership of the consistent frustration that he created for Packer management and fans has left him as perhaps the greatest QB of all time to have little to no support in his effort to return to the game he and his fans love so much.

It is truly sad. I hope he learns that his actions do in fact have consequences. Trying to blame others for his decisions is simply sad. He's played the "gee, shucks, I am not sure I wanna play" card one time too many and to try and blame the Packer management by saying "they didn't tell me they wanted me back." is just wrong. If he wanted to be back WHOLE-heartedly, they would have greeted him with open arms every time.

Kudos to Packers management for doing the best they can in a VERY difficult situation.

Go Pack Go!!!!

Steve I heard you on the Bob and Brian show yesterday describe Favre as checkmated. In my opinion it is the reverse. It is Brett who has the Packers checkmated. Look at the scenarios once he reinstates. First off he is back on the team. Second if they want to make him the backup just look at the headache that would cause. When he shows up to camp all hell will break loose. Rodgers has enough pressure as it is, he sure won't want Brett there. And when it comes down to it do you really think they can from a P.R. standpoint stop the streak that way? On Monday Night Football no less. Not only will G.B. fans not stand for it but the World and the League won't. After that what player up for free agency would even consider playing for a team who would do that to a legend. So it's start him or trade him. And if they trade him it will be where he wants to go. They can try and trade him where they want and he just has to not report. Then he is right back in there lap. Every other team knows this and wont bother unless they believe they have a real chance. See T.O. and Steve McNair for example. Everyone knew where each one of them wanted to go and look where they wound up. The Packers know this and that's why they are trying to say Minnesota tampered in an attempt to stop him from going there. So it's one big nightmare for old Teddy. He either backs down and he starts for the Pack or a team of his choice. You can't lock him out and you can't honestly bench him without destroying your team. Start or trade either way Brett wins. CHECKMATE!

If Farve truly wants his release, I say the Packers give it to him, provided he buys out the rest of his contract for say, $15 million. Then we will know how big of an "itch" he really has.

What Would Irv Have Said?
Hi Steve: When Bob brought up the other day the things may have been different with Brett had Irv been around, I really got to thinking. Since Holmgren, and likely Wolf departed, and his dad died, Favre has had no one to really fear. Next up, Ray Rhodes and Mike Sherman, who let him run wild. Since he didn't have accountability, he could become more of a diva with no one to bring him down to earth. By the time Thompson and McCarthy came along and weren't willing to let Brett walk all over the team, he had been unaccountable for long enough that he couldn't handle it and resented it. Hurt feelings resulted from him having to answer to someone for a change, and from fewer special "Brett rules". I am very curious how he handles Mangini, whom I have been told by a Jets fan is hated by the players. And, wait till Mike Lupica shreds him by mid-October. Read the NY press, they are building him up and up, and they will love tearing him down. See ya, donkey, Terry Rindt Read more ...
