Read the SB Nation entry called, “Meet the Bag Man” and tell me any Div I scholarship athlete is going to bed hungry. That’s 100% BS. Paying college athletes (beyond $100K in tuition, housing, meals, facilities, athletic gear, gift bags from tournament/bowl games) is such a non-starter. The only thing the NCAA need to do is lift their BS ban on outside income, which seems highly unAmerican. If Jane the soccer star or Tim the swimming can swing an Oakley endorsement deal more power to them. If Johnny football can sell his autograph, then so be it. But no f-ing way are my tax dollars going to pay them.

First thought… they’re probably fake. OR a “gift” which he could likely freely accept once he was no longer a “student athlete”.

But to the general point, it isn’t necessarily all that hard to “go to bed hungry” in college. It happened to me when I played. We had no cash like all the other students, no credit cards, cafeteria/food court is closed, no late night options.

And to the previous post, it wouldn’t necessarily be your tax dollars paying for anything. It would be some sponsorship to the Athletic department, ticket revenues, of something like that which is where these scholarships come from now.
